Meet Shade 55

A Grand Rapids, MI-based power-pop/indie rock band -

Jake Stevens, Jonny Victor, Darin Christian and Josh Barnaby, (all songwriters & multi-instrumentalists). Shade55 truly began in the mid-90's when Jake switched from drums to guitar and the original song ideas began flowing. He and Jonny soon had a handful to perform, so they recruited Jake's brother Josh to take over drum duties, and soon added their cousin Darin in primarily for bass, but also for his vocal and drumming abilty. Early shows were raucous affairs of changing instruments like they change their socks (they do, we promise!), and audiences could choose what each band member did. Their songs have always been driven by melody, harmony, hooks, and a clever turn of a phrase. Their writing has been informed by greats such as The Beatles & Paul McCartney, XTC, Fountains of Wayne, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and so many others.

In the years since, their individual & collective resumes became extensive, sharing stages with artists such as Creed, Vertical Horizon, OKGo, Local H, Dexter Freebish, Mat Kearney, Tim Reynolds, Michelle Branch, Dovetail Joint, The Used, Needtobreathe, Switchfoot, Sum 41, Our Lady Peace, Buckcherry, Marvelous 3, Shiner, Hollywood Undead, Hawthorne Heights, Griffin House, The Verve Pipe, Papa Vegas and more with performances at Pine Knob, Van Andel Arena, The Double Door, The Intersection, The Orbit Room and St. Andrew's Hall.

Stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Indianapolis, Akron, Memphis, and Philadelphia. Members songs featured on Grey's Anatomy, The Real World and a handful of short films and commercials. They've also lent their skills to other Michigan bands Miles to Mars, Cold Cash Machine, 256, Metzfire, Blisshead, and more...
